More Ideas for Downtown Restrooms

Earlier, this year, I posted on some concepts for downtown public restrooms, now come another idea that while I thought was interesting concept, I just can’t see anyone using the Axixa, except maybe someone either really intoxicated or homeless.

Check out the Axixa, it’s a ceramic, water-stain shaped device that functions as a public urinal. It even comes in pee-yellow.

The Axixa is a design by Mexican Miguel Melgarejo, and could be deployed cheaply and easily on any city wall. Inside there is a traditional U-bend water trap leading to a drainage pipe. The outside could actually be any shape, but a yellow streak of piss seems appropriate enough.

For some other more practical but still interesting suggestions:

It’s made entirely of one-way glass! No one can see you from the outside, but when you are inside it’s like sitting in a clear glass box! This style public restroom would draw a lot of attention.

Downtown Public Restrooms

I’m not sure if we have any outdoor accessible public restrooms downtown, at least none that I can recall. I believe that’s why you some porta-potties at some downtown events such as the Farmer’s Market.

Here’s a suggestion, when the make-over is being done on the Nollen Plaza or the new Sculpture Garden in the Gateway West Park, how about installing some public restrooms and maybe copy the City of Houston on their somewhat unique take on a public toilet.
