Opening Weekend of Farmer’s Market 2009

Yesterday I got to attend the opening weekend of the Farmer’s Market. I didn’t make it down there until about 10:30, and from what I hear the crowds were thinner then than around 9am. Here’s some photos I took.

Open Date Set for this Year’s Downtown Farmer’s Market

Farmer's

Opening day this year is May 2 at 7:00AM. Not familiar with a Farmers Market? It’s the it place every Saturday morning for find 10,000 to 15,000 people looking to purchase the freshest produce, garden plants, flowers and assorted crafts from a huge variety of vendors. My favorites include the homemade breads and variety of breakfast food available to munch on while shopping.

The Downtown Farmer’s Market is located on Court Avenue from 5th Street to Waters Street. The market opens every Saturday from 7:00AM to noon. The Des Moines Downtown Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday, rain or shine through October 31, 2009.

It’s become a Saturday Morning Ritual

Since moving downtown this past spring, it has become a ritual for me every Saturday morning, as long as it’s not raining, to venture down to the Farmer’s Market and walk around. The Market attracts between 10,000 to 15,000 each Saturday morning as runs May to October and is held in the Court Avenue district.

You’ll find everything from fruits and vegetables, to homemade breads and jewelry and there’s always some sort of live entertainment. The Market is dog-friendly market and is open rain or shine.

Here are a few pictures I took!
