Voting in Downtown Des Moines
Early voting for the November 4th General Election has already started in downtown Des Moines. The Election Office at 120 2nd Avenue is accepting early voting from today, Monday, October 6th through Monday, November 3rd, Mondays through Fridays, from 8:00 am till 5:00 pm.
As an American citizen, our ability to vote is one of our most important Constitutional Rights. This right to vote, is the right that people have fought for, marched for, and even died for, over many years. Our right to vote enables us to express our opinion as who should lead our country. If you choose not to exercise this right, remember you are abdicating your right to influence government and allowing the will of others, whose opinions maybe contrary to your own, to prevail. And more importantly, by not voting you are allowing it to be no longer the will of the majority that governs this country, but rather, the will of the minority.
If you don’t think you will get the chance to vote early, you can also request an Absentee Ballot and vote via mail. I voted via Absentee Ballot last week so I know my vote has been cast. You can request an Absentee Ballot at: http://auditor.co.polk.ia.us/election/absenteeballot.pdf
Also if you are not sure that you are registered, you can use the tool below to check your registration status as well as what voting precinct you are in. Downtown Des Moines is mainly precincts 62, 63, 64 and 65.
