HD Locals Coming to Des Moines / Ames in November
So one of the few things I disliked about moving downtown was loosing my Mediacom Cable Service for two reasons. First reason, I love Tivo, and even though DirecTV has a DVR, there software is like using Windows when you are used to use Mac OSX. The second reason is the lack of HD local channels. DirecTV has been promising since the Fall off 2006 that the Des Moines metro market would have local HD channels, well now almost two years later, we are slated to finally get local HD sometime in November according to their site.
If you are not aware, most downtown condos, don’t offer Mediacom Cable as an option, most are serviced only via DirecTV MRU (multi-residential use) satellite service through NexGen Communications.
Also believe it or not, sometime in 2009 DirecTV and Tivo will be jointly releasing a new HD DVR that runs Tivo software with all the bells and whistles that regular Tivo subscribers get! I will be first in line when these babies come out. Once you use a Tivo, you would never want to use a regular DVR again, either from Mediacom or DirecTV.
